Who were the Imperial Romans?

These two categories sit on either side of one of history's most consequential frontiers. Iron Age Celtic ancestry represents the Celtic-speaking populations of pre-Roman Western and Central Europe, many of which were later absorbed into, or lived alongside, the expanding Roman Empire. A person's results might show both — reflecting ancestry from populations with roots in pre-Roman Iron Age Europe as well as ancestry shaped by centuries of life within (or trade with) the Roman world.
